Mr. Mark Kline

Mr. Kline has taught general music (Kindergarten through 6th grade) at St. Vincent de Paul since the fall of 2015. He is a graduate of Eureka College, where he majored in mathematics and music. Also at Eureka College, Mr. Kline was introduced to the Catholic Faith through the outreach of the campus Newman Center. Mr. Kline leads music at three area churches, and he also runs a business teaching music lessons privately.

Music is a powerful conduit of learning about our Faith. Through music and song, we can naturally connect our thoughts and emotions to the great truths of God’s love for us and our response to it in our lives. As students learn different kinds of music—energetic songs, reflective/meditative songs, songs of prayer, songs of silliness, and songs of particular cultural significance to people around the world—Mr. Kline endeavors for our students to learn the songs in a meaningful way that contributes to their inner life of faith and love for God and neighbor. Oftentimes, the melodies we find ourselves humming outside of music class can guide our thoughts and actions in a positive way.

Mr. Kline enjoys cooking and uses this past-time to spoil our students with homemade pumpkin bread! This special treat is reserved as a reward for classes who lead the all-school Mass music and readings in a heartfelt manner. Mr. Kline also enjoys hiking, cycling, swimming, and volleyball. Before St. Vincent’s, Mr. Kline began working with youth as a summer camp counselor at Camp Kearney, a ministry of the South Side Mission which is supported financially by the Diocese of Peoria. He later served as Director of Jr. & Sr. High Ministries at an area church, where he organized mission trips to Detroit, MI, and the Oglala-Lakota Native American Reservation in Pine Ridge, SD.

“Lord, help us each day to be Your instruments. Let our lives be like music that is always in harmony with Your will.”
