Growing up in a military family, Mrs. Demmin had the opportunity to live in seven different states. She spent much of her childhood in Hawaii before moving to Michigan, where she lived for the majority of her life.
She earned her degree in Kinesiology from Northern Illinois University and brings nine years of experience working in Catholic education and athletics. She previously served in the athletic departments at St. Catherine of Siena Academy in Wixom, Michigan, and Fr. Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is excited to bring her experience and enthusiasm for athletics and Catholic schools to the St. Vincent de Paul community.
Her favorite saint is St. Francis of Assisi, whose love and care for God’s creation particularly resonates with her as an animal lover. Her favorite prayer is the St. Michael the Archangel Prayer, a devotion that has a very special connection to her family and her own faith journey.
Faith has been an important part of her life since childhood, growing up attending Sunday Mass with her family and Mass at school. Her trust in God took on an even deeper meaning when she was in fifth grade and her father was deployed with the Army to Iraq. During his deployment, his vehicle struck an IED. She vividly remembers her mother sharing the news with her and her sister as they stood outside their school gym beneath a crucifix. Although her father survived, four of the soldiers serving with him lost their lives. Her father had a strong devotion to St. Michael the Archangel, wore a St. Michael medal, and prayed for his intercession daily. His survival became a profound reminder to their family of God’s presence and protection, even in moments of great fear and sorrow.
That experience taught her the importance of turning to God not only in times of joy, but especially when facing fear, uncertainty, and circumstances beyond our control. She finds comfort in bringing her worries to the foot of the Cross and praying for peace and strength. Her experiences have taught her the power of unwavering faith, trust in the Lord, and seeking His protection during life’s most difficult moments.
Outside of work, she enjoys playing volleyball and trying new recipes in the kitchen, especially cooking and baking. And while she may not have a traditional classroom, she says that if she did, one thing would be certain—it would be colorful! She is excited to bringing that same energy, joy, and enthusiasm to the students and families of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School.
