Ms. Lottie Heckman serves as the Music teacher at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School. Growing up in the Roanoke-Benson community with her father serving as a deacon in the Diocese of Peoria, Ms. Heckman experienced from an early age the powerful ways faith and music can bring people together. She is grateful for the opportunity to share her love of music, culture, and the Catholic faith with students each day.

Ms. Heckman earned her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Illinois State University and holds her Illinois Music Education Licensure. Throughout her musical journey, she has studied and performed a wide variety of musical styles and continues to share her talents as a cantor at several parishes throughout the area. Music has been a lifelong gift in her own life, and she is excited to inspire the next generation of musicians.

In her classroom, Ms. Heckman hopes every student discovers that music is for everyone. She strives to create an environment where students feel welcomed, encouraged, and confident as they develop their musical abilities. Through singing, music literacy, healthy vocal technique, and exploring music from many cultures and traditions, students will strengthen creativity, perseverance, teamwork, critical thinking, and empathy. Most importantly, Ms. Heckman hopes each child recognizes that their voice matters and that music is a beautiful way to praise God, express themselves, and connect with others.

Faith is at the heart of Ms. Heckman’s approach to teaching. She believes music is a powerful way to encounter God and share His love with others. Through her work in the classroom and as a cantor, she hopes to help students see music not only as a skill to develop but also as a gift to celebrate and offer back to the Lord.
